New Habits

Gracious Gifts, Healthy Eating, Lifestyle

Christy's Portrait

Here’s to starting something new… like this blog! I’m excited to introduce myself as the most recent addition as contributor to Dasha’s blog–an honor, to be sure. I look forward to entertaining, informing, and inspiring you as you read. 🙂

My posts will include every sort of “pro-tips” or fun stories I think you’ll enjoy. Expect to hear about my journey to fitness, my discoveries as a slow-budding fashionista, and perhaps some behind-the-scenes tales of your host, Dasha…. (We’ll keep that part between just us, deal? 😉 )

Birthday Cake

Food

How Cool is My Mom?

This is the cake that my mom made on my 18th Birth Day. In Europe 18 is a big deal, sort of like 21 here in the US. I remember how special that day was. Both of my parents made sure that I had the time of my life. It was absolutely perfect. I can’t really complain about my life, especially my childhood. I have been raised by the most intelligent, loving, and hardworking parents.

Cooking at Home or “Joyful Frugality”

Food

One Pot Chicken & Yams | Portobello Mushrooms

About three months ago I decided to stop eating out in order to minimize my main expense – FOOD. I wanted to adapt a frugal mentality after reading a famous blog Frugalwoods, which reminded me once again of the importance of financial independence and simple living. The blog is written by a young couple,  husband and wife, who share their journey of the joyful frugality.

Sewing as a Love Language

ENGLISH AND RUSSIAN

A few years ago I visited a friend in Texas and was absolutely amazed by her pattern and fabric collection. It reminded me of my childhood when my mom would teach me how to sew. I realized how much I missed it, so I decided to once again return to my long forgotten hobby!

Inattention and Lost Treasures or How I Had to Drive 400 Miles in One Day

Just a few hours ago I posted about my recent “breath taking” experience. I didn’t have time to share all the details of my journey as I was in a rush trying to fix the mistakes following my lack of attention last nigh! After two long hours of driving on a windy road coming back from Monterey County where we spent our weekend Grant and I decided to stop at Rustic Fire for dinner.

How to Avoid Inevitable

Beauty and Fashion, Lifestyle, Travel

This morning I am driving back to a restaurant where I forgot my purse. Crazy huh? Its been 10 hours since I last seen it and it is driving me crazy. Although my entire life is in that purse (if not life, my identity is for sure), how do I keep being excited about life? I haven’t quite figured that out yet. But I will let you know when I find out! Let me know if anything like that has ever happened to you and what did you do? <stress>

Through the eyes of a beloved cameraman

Beauty and Fashion

A few days ago I shared a little bit about August Van Der Walz – a fashion designer from Russia who brings traditional slavic patterns into 21 century design. August owns his own showroom in Saint Petersburg and has been recognized as a designer who provides an absolutely fantastic shopping experience to his beloved customers.

Flower Girl Workshop

Beauty and Fashion

I wanted to introduce you to the works of my childhood best friend Anya. She has opened Flower Berry Workshop about a year ago now and has been creating absolutely gorgeous flower crowns. Her Instagram page has reached tremendous success! I am so proud of how far she has come. I am incredibly happy that she was able to turn her hobby into a full time career.

Sewing

I wanted to talk a little bit about my love for sewing. Two summers ago I was able to partake in a few sewing projects. The top presented on the following pictures is one of the works I completed in August, 2014. I wish I had a little bit more time this year to have projects like this one, but school takes up most of my time.

Admiring Fellow Russian Designers

Beauty and Fashion, Lifestyle

A few years ago I came across this super talented fashion designer from Saint Petersburg, Russia, who specializes in custom-made women’s dresses. He has been doing it for many years. I have watched his etsy account grow drastically over the years, as well as his name in Russia and all around the world. It seems like he literally knows everything about pattern making for all sorts of dresses.
